What Causes Hyperhidrosis?
Sweating is a normal bodily response to cool the body during periods of exercise or other stimulation. Hyperhidrosis results from an overactive sympathetic nervous system where the body sweats more than is needed for physiological thermal regulation.
Over 3 million people in America suffer from excessive sweating. Treatment is highly recommended, and, in most cases covered by insurance, as skin infections can occur as a result.
Treatment for Excessive Sweating
Dr. Moraru treats excessive sweating using Botox whicih has been proven to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating. In a clinical study, patients had drier underarms for up to 201 days, or 6.7 months. 84 out of 104 patients treated with BOTOX® (81%) achieved a greater than 50% reduction in sweating , compared to only 44 out of 108 patients not treated with BOTOX® Individual results may vary.
Botox helps with hyperhidrosis by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, severe underarm sweating is reduced.
How is Botox Administered?
Fifteen to twenty drops of Botox are injected via a very small needle into the hair-bearign skin of each underarm. Normal activity can be resumed immediately following treatment while heavy exercise should be avoided for several hours.
How Soon Will I See Results?
Within 48 hours of treatment you should have a 90% reduction in underarm sweating. Within one week you should experience the full effect of the treatment.
How Long Do The Results Last?
This type of treatment for excessive sweating typically lasts 6-10 months.
What Does the Treatment Cost? Is it Covered by Insurance?
The cost for excessive sweating treatment can vary, particularly with using Botox. Some insurance plans cover the entire treatment while others only cover partial treatment. The cost will be in direct correlation to the amount your insurance covers.
